BABYBLU -
The Last Memento
The documentary (50 min.) tells the story of the Šabanović family who fled from Bosnia - Herzegovina to Switzerland 30 years ago. We accompany the family to their places of remembrance in Bosnia and to their places of activity in Switzerland and ask them about their cultural identity and belonging. The common thread running through the film is the only pre-war memento of the Šabanović family – the eldest son Alen’s romper suit. In cooperation with the War Childhood Museum Sarajevo, the romper suit comes as an exhibit in the museum and is symbolic of children around the world who cannot grow up in their parents' country because of political unrest and war.
BABYBLU is a very close and emotional film based on the real story of the Šabanović family. But BABYBLU also stands as an example for displaced people worldwide – a highly topical issue. The film promotes understanding of the reasons for migration and encourages people to talk about their own migration history and to understand it as part of Swiss history.
BABYBLU is a work by Edith Werffeli, winner of the Cultural Studies Fellowship from the Landis and Gyr Foundation.
